Preventative Maintenance: Why Use a Cleaner Hydraulic Oil?

hydraulic oil

Modern machines have evolved, and lubrication systems have evolved with them.

Today, increasing demands are placed on lubricants in terms of operating temperatures, loads, efficiency and performance.

The oil film between system components may only be a few microns thick and is invisible to the human eye. It is therefore essential to control and monitor contamination effectively.

Cleaner Hydraulic Oil Can Improve Reliability

Studies have shown that up to 80% of oil-related machine failures are caused by contaminated oil.

Cleaner oil can therefore lead to longer component life, improved operational reliability and lower operating costs.

The cleaner the hydraulic oil, the less abrasive contamination is circulating between close-tolerance components.

Understanding ISO Cleanliness Codes

Our HydroMaster Ultra range is certified to ISO Cleanliness Code 16/14/11 at the point of production.

The lower the numbers, the cleaner the hydraulic oil.

The industry standard for the blending of hydraulic oil is generally in the region of ISO 19/17/14. However, the cleaner the oil, the greater the potential to reduce wear and operating costs.

Maintaining Cleanliness During Transfer

Producing clean hydraulic oil is only part of the process. It must also remain clean while being transferred into the machine.

Using our dedicated decant system and specialist transfer equipment, we can maintain the certified cleanliness code through to the sump of your machinery.

This reduces the risk of contamination being introduced through unsuitable containers, dirty pumps or poorly controlled transfer methods.

Consider Scheduled Fluid Analysis

To maximise reliability, condition monitoring should also be considered through scheduled fluid analysis.

Regular analysis can help monitor the condition and cleanliness of the oil, allowing potential problems to be identified before they result in unnecessary wear or machine failure.
